Southport Grocery- Great Brunch and Lunch Spot

Southport Grocery, at 3552 N. Southport, certainly does offer modern and down to earth brunch and lunch options.  Although, I am not sure if I just missed it, but a couple of racks of grocery items did not seem to qualify the "Grocery" part of their name.  Hmm...I guess that is up for debate.  I did enjoy the un-pretentious (Is that a word?  Oh well!) nature of the restaurant, which makes it a welcome and bustling environment for all who visit.  Be forewarned that you will get to look and watch many cute kids, babies and the fashionable strollers that come with them!

Food wise, I had a delicious steak sandwich (left) served with carmelized onions and blue cheese.  The steak was cooked perfectly to medium-rare and the whole sandwich seemed to melt in my mouth.  I would say that this sandwich was nearly a 9.5/10, however I do not believe that this sandwich is always on the menu.  The red potato salad was average and really had no depth or unique flavors.

I also had the Bread Pudding Pancakes ($9) that are served with cinnamon sugar butter and a side of vanilla custard.  These are too sweet for my taste, but others who like very sweet things may enjoy these.

P1010543.JPGDon't get me wrong- I truly enjoyed dipping them into my vanilla custard and you really can't go wrong with cinnamon sugar butter, but I could only eat about 1/8 of the portion that was served to me due to "sweetness" factors.  Bottom line - if you like sweet things this is for you.

I have also heard that the Stuffed French Toast is very tasty ($9).  And, I have to admit that after my "oh-so-sweet" serving of the Bread Pudding Pancakes, I failed to order the famous Gourmet Cupcake, from their bakery, that everyone seems to rave about.

Not to fear, because this just gives me an opportunity to head back to Southport Grocery, which I most certainly will do in the near future.
